Who we are
An advocate for the practices the industry forgot
Byzantine was founded on one conviction: oral surgery and dental practices deserve real cybersecurity — not firewall-disabling advice and crossed fingers. We bring Zero Trust architecture and direct human support to the practices that need it most.
Our story
Why we exist
Byzantine Technologies' true birth came from a simple need: small-town doctors deserved an advocate in their back pocket — for both competent technology solutions and cybersecurity at a price they could afford.
When we first got into the industry, one of the most quoted phrases by the big dental companies was, "just disable the firewall, it'll work better." To this day, practices remain at high cyber risk because of idiosyncratic habits that still plague the industry.
"One of the most common arguments made by cybersecurity firms is that managed service providers don't know much about cybersecurity. That argument isn't only wrong — it's dangerous. The truth is, cybersecurity is a team effort, and until everyone agrees on that, the discrepancy will only grow."
We're one small provider that welcomes the collective effort with open arms. To our disappointment, too many cybersecurity companies care only about their bottom line — selling subscription-only services instead of actually helping the community stay safe.
How we think
Security is a practice, not a product
Defense in depth means no single control is your last line of defense. Byzantine runs two independent MDR engines — Cynet and Bitdefender GravityZone — with intentional detection overlap. Cynet achieved 100% detection visibility and zero false positives in the MITRE ATT&CK® Enterprise Evaluations three consecutive years. Bitdefender GravityZone was named a Visionary in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection. Either one alone is a serious platform. Together, with each SOC authorized to isolate a host, block a file, or quarantine a threat without waiting for approval, the gap between detection and containment closes to minutes — not hours.
The weakest point in any security chain isn't a piece of software — it's an undertrained person in a stressful moment. Byzantine's training model runs on positive reinforcement, not shame. When a staff member clicks a phishing simulation, the response is a short, clear teaching moment — not a write-up, not a meeting, not a raised eyebrow from the office manager. People who feel safe reporting mistakes report them faster, and that speed is what stops real incidents from becoming real breaches.
Securitas per Sapientiam — Security through Wisdom. An informed practice is a protected practice. Byzantine doesn't manufacture dependency by keeping clients in the dark about their own systems. We explain every decision, document every configuration, and make sure your team understands why the controls are there. A practice that understands its security stack doesn't just survive an incident — it helps prevent the next one.
What guides us
Our principles
Zero Trust, Not Zero Responsibility
Every device is verified. Every connection is authenticated. Every user gets only the access they need — nothing more. But when something slips, we ask how we close the gap, not who clicked the link.
Built for Practices, Not Enterprises
Byzantine deploys two independent MDR engines — Cynet (MITRE ATT&CK top performer, three years running) and Bitdefender GravityZone (Gartner Magic Quadrant Visionary, 2026). If one misses, the other catches it. Both SOCs have pre-approved authority to isolate, block, and quarantine without waiting for your permission — or ours.
The Invisible Layer
Good security is security your staff never thinks about — until the day it matters. Byzantine integrates protection so deeply into operations that your front desk, billing team, and doctors move freely, without friction. The perimeter is always on. Your team doesn't have to be.
The journey
How we got here
The problem we saw
Dental and medical practices were told to "just disable the firewall — it'll work better." The industry's idiosyncrasies left patient data dangerously exposed.
An advocate is born
Byzantine Technologies was founded so small-town doctors would have an advocate for both competent technology and affordable cybersecurity.
A growing perimeter
We protect practices across the Gulf Coast and both U.S. seaboards — from Spanish Fort to clinics nationwide — with a team-effort approach to security.
Community involvement
We give back to the threat-intelligence community
We use IP reputation data every day to help protect the practices we serve — and we contribute back to it. Byzantine Technologies reports abusive IP activity to AbuseIPDB, a community blacklist that webmasters and sysadmins use to identify and block malicious traffic. It is a small part of how we help make the wider internet a little safer for everyone.
